The government has approved a 10% salary increase for public sector workers after reaching an agreement with the Labour Union in negotiations led by President John Dramani Mahama.
This marks the second wage adjustment in less than a year, following a 23% increase in 2024, which was implemented to cushion workers against rising living costs.
Announcing the decision, Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Rashid Pelpuo, stated that the new wage structure will take effect on March 1, 2025.

“The government remains committed to ensuring fair wages for public sector workers while maintaining economic stability,” he said.
The pay raise is expected to bring financial relief to thousands of government employees amid ongoing economic challenges. However, concerns have been raised by some economists over the potential inflationary effects of frequent wage increases.
As Ghana navigates its economic recovery, the government will face the challenge of balancing worker welfare with fiscal discipline to sustain long-term growth.
