The government has urged the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to abandon its planned strike following the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 19, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications and spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, defended the appointment, calling on CLOGSAG to reconsider its decision.
“We believe that the president has acted correctly in the appointment of Mr. Adom Botchway, so we would appeal to CLOGSAG to rescind their decision to go on strike,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.

He acknowledged that strike actions are a legitimate tool for workers to express their concerns but argued that in this case, there was no valid justification for such a move.
“A strike action, we appreciate. It is one of the mechanisms they can use to drive home their demands… But in this particular instance, we do not believe that an efficient basis exists to go on strike because it will be unfair to the people of Ghana who pay the wages of all public officers, including members of CLOGSAG,” he explained.
The government’s appeal underscores the administration’s position that the appointment process was fair and justified. It remains to be seen whether CLOGSAG will heed the call or proceed with its planned industrial action.
