The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the reintroduction of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) into the management framework of public schools, a move aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between parents and teachers to enhance student learning outcomes.
Speaking at a public forum, the minister emphasised the vital role PTAs play in ensuring community involvement in education.
“I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back into the management of education under the presidency of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. This will enable parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions and support schools in producing quality human capital for the country,” he stated.

The policy shift marks a significant step in reviving parental engagement in education, as PTAs were once instrumental in shaping school policies, improving infrastructure, and addressing student discipline. In recent years, however, their influence had waned.
With this decision, the government seeks to build a more inclusive education system, where parents, teachers, and administrators collaborate to improve academic performance, strengthen school governance, and address critical challenges in public schools.
In the coming months, schools are expected to formally reintegrate PTAs into their administrative structures, ensuring that parents once again play an active role in shaping the future of education in Ghana.
