COCOBOD Dismisses Reports of Cocoa Price Increase as False

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting that the government has announced an increase in cocoa prices.

The regulatory body has described such reports as entirely false and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

According to a flyer making rounds online, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, allegedly declared that cocoa farmers would now receive 70% of the world market price for their produce.

However, COCOBOD has categorically denied the claim, stating that no such decision has been made.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue,” COCOBOD clarified in a statement on its social media page.

The regulatory body further advised farmers, industry players, and the general public to rely only on official communication channels for any updates on cocoa pricing.

This development comes at a time when cocoa farmers and stakeholders are closely monitoring potential price adjustments amid global market fluctuations. Many farmers have been advocating for higher farmgate prices to reflect increasing production costs, climate-related risks, and economic challenges affecting the sector.

While calls for better pricing persist, COCOBOD has reassured farmers that any changes to cocoa prices will be announced through the appropriate official platforms to avoid misinformation.

For now, the board has reiterated that the current price structure remains unchanged, urging all stakeholders to disregard unverified reports and await official announcements.
