Sam George Sets March 6 Deadline for Data Pricing Review
The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations has set March 6, 2025, as the deadline for a comprehensive review of data pricing in Ghana.
A 23-member Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee has been tasked with assessing current pricing models and proposing solutions to make internet access more affordable for all Ghanaians.
The committee, inaugurated by Minister Samuel Nartey George, is expected to submit its final report by the March 6 deadline, outlining recommendations for competitive and transparent data pricing across all telecommunications networks.

The deadline coincides with Ghana’s Independence Day, symbolising the government’s commitment to digital independence and affordability.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that Ghanaians no longer struggle with high data costs, which have been a major barrier to education, employment, and business growth.
“This is a national priority. We are giving this committee until March 6, 2025, to provide actionable solutions that will ensure that data pricing in Ghana is fair, transparent, and beneficial to all,” Mr. George stated during the inauguration.
The minister also revealed that a 10% data price reduction proposed by a major telecom operator in January 2024 has remained unapproved for over a year. Instead of addressing individual proposals, the government now seeks a holistic review to establish fair data pricing across all networks.
“Instead of looking at just one proposal, we want a comprehensive solution that ensures affordable data for all Ghanaians,” Mr. George explained.
With less than a month until the March 6 deadline, the committee has a tight window to finalise recommendations that will determine the future cost of internet services in Ghana.
If successful, this initiative could mark a major shift in Ghana’s digital economy, ensuring that affordable data access is no longer a luxury but a right for all citizens.
