The concerned youth and stakeholders of Chereponi in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region have issued a passionate plea for fair political representation, citing decades of marginalisation despite their unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
Chereponi, a constituency that has stood firmly with the party, has yet to receive a single meaningful political appointment beyond the routine selection of a District Chief Executive (DCE).
This long-standing exclusion, they argue, is unjust and contradicts the principles of inclusivity and fairness in governance.
The youth of Chereponi played a pivotal role in the success of the NDC in the 2024 elections through relentless mobilisation, grassroots engagement, and steadfast loyalty.
They now seek acknowledgement of their contributions through strategic appointments that reflect their commitment to the party and national development.
In their address, the youth emphasised their dedication to peace, unity, and national progress. They clarified that their demand for fair representation is not an act of rebellion but a call for justice and equitable governance.
They stressed that no community should be left behind while others enjoy full political recognition.
Despite their unwavering efforts to safeguard the electoral process in 2024, they now face ridicule from political opponents, further fuelling their demand for recognition and action.
To address the issue of under-representation, the youth and stakeholders have put forward a list of qualified individuals from Chereponi whom they believe are deserving of government appointments. The nominees include:
- Alhaji Mohammed Seidu Issah Abah—Former MP, former DCE, retired educationist, and Regional Council of Elders Secretary (North East Region).
- Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite—Former MP, former teacher, and youth mentor.
- Hon. Emmanuel Jajiti—Former Presiding Member, with experience in health administration at the regional level.
- Hon. Fatawu Karandey Amidu—Regional Deputy Youth Organiser, educationist with over 13 years of experience in education management, and youth mentor.
- Hon. Seidu Kalamba—Former parliamentary candidate aspirant, former District Health Insurance Manager, and youth mentor.
- Hon. Yussif Frinjei Sulemana – Former parliamentary candidate aspirant, former teacher, and finance expert (former banker).
- Hon. Alaza Labaran—Former parliamentary candidate aspirant, former constituency secretary, and teacher.
- Nfiegma John—Teacher by profession.
- Amos Jejeti—NADMO officer in the Yendi Municipal Assembly.
- Bichesu Moake Comfort—Teacher by profession.
These individuals possess the experience, expertise, and leadership qualities necessary to serve in government and represent the interests of Chereponi effectively.
Beyond political under-representation, the people of Chereponi face numerous socio-economic challenges, including:
- Poor road networks linking Yendi, Nalerigu, and Bunkpurugu.
- Lack of potable water, forcing residents and animals to compete for unsafe sources.
- High levels of youth unemployment.
- Inadequate and poor educational infrastructure, with some students still learning under trees.
The youth and stakeholders of Chereponi are hopeful that their concerns will receive the serious attention they deserve. They remain committed to contributing their skills and expertise to national development—if given the opportunity.
“Chereponi deserves recognition. Chereponi deserves fair representation. Chereponi stands for progress.”
