Tension erupted at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital after a group of commercial motorcycle riders, commonly known as Okada riders, stormed the facility in anger following the death of a colleague in a fatal accident.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday at Agona Nyansakyere in the Agona East District, claimed the life of one rider while leaving two others—another rider and a passenger—in critical condition.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident happened when one of the riders, carrying a passenger, was travelling from Agona K.T.K. to Agona Kwanyarko, while the other was heading in the opposite direction. Both riders were reportedly speeding, and the absence of streetlights due to a power outage may have contributed to the crash.

Bystanders rushed to the scene and quickly transported the victims to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital for emergency treatment.
Shortly after the victims arrived at the hospital, news broke that one of the Okada riders had succumbed to his injuries. In response, a group of furious Okada riders stormed the facility, attacking medical personnel and damaging hospital property.
Assemblyman for Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, confirmed the incident, stating that the enraged riders assaulted a doctor on duty, chased out nurses, and smashed hospital equipment, including computers and mobile phones.
“They slapped a doctor, forced nurses to flee, and vandalised computers and other equipment in the hospital. It was absolute chaos,” Mr. Odoom reported.
Mr. Odoom strongly condemned the violent actions of the Okada riders, stressing that such lawlessness must not be tolerated. He urged the police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Additionally, he noted that the tragic accident could have been avoided if the riders had exercised more caution on the road.
Authorities are now calling for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent reckless motorcycle riding and reduce the increasing number of accidents in the region.
