Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has reaffirmed his commitment to the creative arts industry despite his new roles as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister Designate for Food and Agriculture.
Speaking at the launch of Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed his appreciation for the gospel musician’s work and assured her of his continued support.
“Despite the fact that I am an MP now and I am in the Agric Ministry, I still will not forget where I came from, which is the arts sector, and I will always be an arts person. I will always be a creative person, and if we don’t develop our own, who else will develop it for us?” he stated at the event, held at Tang Palace in Accra.
Dumelo emphasised the economic significance of the creative arts industry, noting that it plays a crucial role in national development despite often being overlooked.
His appointment as Deputy Minister Designate for Food and Agriculture was officially announced yesterday. Prior to his nomination, many had speculated that he would be assigned a role within the tourism, culture, and creative arts ministry due to his deep roots in the entertainment industry.
Beyond politics and entertainment, Dumelo has been actively involved in agriculture, frequently encouraging the youth to explore the sector as a viable career path.
Currently serving as the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Dumelo continues to balance his political, agricultural, and creative pursuits while advocating for the growth of the arts industry in Ghana.
