The ministerial vetting on January 30 took a dramatic turn as the Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Laadi Ayii Ayamba, shared unsettling details about an alleged confrontation involving the Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Testifying before the investigative committee probing the chaos, Mrs. Ayamba revealed that the committee clerk, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, became the target of an unprovoked attack by the minority leader.
“As soon as we began, the minority entered, and what I witnessed was a direct attack by the minority leader on the clerk, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, without any provocation,” Mrs. Ayamba recounted.

The shocking incident left her deeply unsettled. “As a woman, I could not sit back and watch this happen. It made me uncomfortable, and it continued for some time before I felt the need to stand up,” she added.
The situation escalated further when the chairman instructed the clerk to administer the oath to the nominee—an action she had already performed.
However, Mrs. Ayamba observed that due to the persistent aggression directed at her, the clerk hesitated to proceed.
Sensing the intimidation, Mrs. Ayamba took matters into her own hands, stepping in to encourage the clerk. “You are supposed to listen to the chairman, not anyone else. Administer the oath. Why are you sitting down?” she urged.
As tensions rose, members of the minority allegedly made unsavoury remarks about Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, questioning her political affiliation and launching personal attacks. Unable to remain silent, Mrs. Ayamba confronted the Minority Leader directly.
“She is a dignified woman, and with that, she doesn’t have to be spoken to in that way. Please, can you stop?” she demanded.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Mrs. Ayamba expressed her firm stance against such treatment. “I could not just sit there and allow this to happen. As a woman, I felt it was my responsibility to stand up for Gifty. She deserves respect, and I could not let such behaviour go unchecked.”
