This announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

While the specifics of the new toll system are yet to be fully detailed, the Ministry assured the public that further information would be shared in the coming weeks.

In addition, the ministry outlined its commitment to implementing a transparent, competitive, and cost-effective procurement process for the initiative, which will ensure fairness in the development and execution of the toll system.

“To achieve this objective, the ministry will employ an open, transparent, competitive, cost-effective, and fair procurement process,” the statement noted.

The reintroduction of the tolls comes as part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to address the country’s ongoing road maintenance challenges. As the road network continues to expand and deteriorate due to increasing traffic and environmental factors, the revenue generated from the toll system is expected to support the upkeep of the nation’s roads and bridges, as well as the development of new infrastructure.

In its statement, the ministry reassured citizens of its dedication to introducing a modernised tolling system that would help address the financial challenges currently faced in maintaining the country’s road network. The initiative is seen as an essential step toward ensuring sustainable road infrastructure that can meet the growing needs of the population.

The public is urged to stay informed as further details about the implementation of the new toll system will be provided in the near future.
