Korle Bu Mortuary Shutdown: No Fresh Bodies or BID Cases Accepted Amid Overhaul

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has temporarily halted the acceptance of fresh bodies and Brought-in-Dead (BID) cases as it embarks on a six-week refurbishment of its cold room facilities.

In a statement released on February 3, 2025, the hospital’s management explained that this decision aims to improve service delivery and ensure a more efficient mortuary system.

“We regret to announce that we will be unable to accept fresh bodies or Brought-in-Dead (BID) cases during this period,” the statement read. However, it clarified that cases originating from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital itself would not be affected by the restriction.

The hospital has urged bereaved families whose deceased relatives have been in the mortuary for three to six weeks or longer to make urgent arrangements for burial or transfer to alternative facilities.

“The refurbishment is scheduled for completion within six weeks,” the management assured, emphasising that the improvements will enhance service quality at Ghana’s largest tertiary healthcare provider.

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary measure and has called for public cooperation during this period.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to enhance our services,” the statement concluded.

The hospital reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality healthcare and ensuring the best possible facilities for the public.
