Joseph Osei Boateng, a Ghanaian national convicted of sex crimes involving a minor, has been arrested in Columbus, Ohio, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
ICE confirmed that its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) team apprehended Boateng on January 29, 2025.
He remains in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings.
According to Robert Lynch, Detroit Field Office Director for ERO, the agency remains committed to identifying and removing individuals who pose a risk to public safety.
“Sex crimes against a minor threaten the very fabric of our communities. Our ICE team will continue to identify and apprehend individuals amenable to removal who have victimised our most vulnerable population,” Lynch said.
Boateng legally entered the U.S. in 2019 but was convicted in October 2024 on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor by the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.
ICE has encouraged the public to report immigration violations or suspicious activity by calling the ICE Tip Line at 866-DHS-2-ICE or submitting a tip online.
