Mahama Appoints Eight-Member Committee to Organise National Education Forum
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to spearhead the organisation of the National Education Forum, fulfilling his pledge to reform Ghana’s education sector.
The committee, chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, a former pro vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, has been given two weeks to submit a comprehensive plan for the forum.
The members of the committee include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, Professor Smile Dzisi, Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz. Their mandate is to craft a detailed strategy for engaging key stakeholders and shaping a new policy framework for national education.
Among their responsibilities are:
- Developing a theme and sub-themes to guide discussions.
- Identifying key stakeholders such as students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organisations, development partners, religious groups, political parties, chiefs, and educational institutions.
- Proposing a venue and dates for the forum.
- Establishing a budget and structuring a stakeholder engagement agenda featuring breakout sessions and plenaries.
Additionally, the committee will set up a secretariat to document all activities, compile a detailed report outlining key findings and recommendations, and draft a national education policy framework. Three weeks after the forum, they are expected to present an action plan for implementing the proposed reforms.
The National Education Forum aims to bring together education experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss challenges and propose solutions to enhance Ghana’s education system.
