President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.
Dr. Asiamah’s nomination comes after the current governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, formally requested to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement on March 31, 2025.
With over two decades of experience at the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Asiamah previously served as the Second Deputy Governor from 2016 to 2017. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Southampton, UK, and has built a distinguished career in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic research.
Throughout his tenure in various roles at the central bank, he has played a key role in shaping monetary and exchange rate policies, strengthening Ghana’s financial system, and supporting economic growth.
His appointment is expected to bring continuity and expertise to the central bank as the country navigates economic challenges and strives for financial stability.
If approved, Dr. Asiamah will be tasked with leading policies to maintain inflation control, ensure a stable exchange rate, and foster sustainable economic development.
