A group of individuals believed to be supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) reportedly attacked traders at the Tamale central business area in the Northern Region on Tuesday, January 28, over a dispute regarding the ownership of a lorry station.
According to reports by JoyNews’ Eliasu Tanko, the alleged thugs stormed the lorry station and clashed with their opponents, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The altercation caused panic, forcing traders and shoppers to flee for safety, bringing business activities to a standstill.
While no fatalities were recorded, one individual sustained a severe injury during the confrontation. JoyNews also reported that no arrests had been made as of the time of filing this report and police had not yet arrived at the scene.
Calm has since been restored to the area, but tensions remain high as traders and residents express concern over the recurring disputes at the lorry station.
