Oliver Barker-Vormawor Summoned to Parliament Over Bribery Allegations Against Vetting Committee

Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been summoned to appear before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee after making allegations that the committee has been soliciting money from ministerial nominees in exchange for their approval.

The accusations have been strongly denied by the committee, with Chairman Bernard Ahiafor describing the claims as baseless.

On Tuesday, January 28, Chairman Ahiafor rejected the allegations, asserting that neither he nor any members of the committee had been involved in such corrupt practices. He called for evidence to substantiate the accusations made by Barker-Vormawor.

In response, Chairman Ahiafor instructed the Clerk of the Committee to invite the activist to present proof of his claims in an official meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 29.

He emphasised that failure to provide evidence could lead to legal consequences for the accuser.

“We cannot allow such unsubstantiated claims to tarnish the integrity of the Appointments Committee and its work,” Ahiafor stated.

The allegations have sparked significant controversy, with some members of the minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) calling for a suspension of the vetting process until Barker-Vormawor appears before the committee to respond to the accusations.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, where Barker-Vormawor will have the opportunity to substantiate his claims or risk facing legal action.
