Prominent private legal practitioner and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frank Davies, has commended President John Mahama for his decision to limit the number of ministers in his administration to sixty.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 25, Mr. Davies expressed his admiration for the President’s adherence to his campaign promise, emphasising the importance of delivering on such commitments to the Ghanaian people.
“I must say from the outset that I am impressed by the fact that His Excellency President John Mahama intends to stick to a select number of sixty ministers. I only hope that he will remain steadfast in keeping to that number,” Mr. Davies said.

Mr. Davies highlighted the similarities between President Mahama’s approach and the NPP’s earlier proposal under its 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who pledged to govern with only fifty ministers if elected.
“Let’s not forget our presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also intended to govern with fifty ministers. If President Mahama is delivering on his campaign pledge of appointing just sixty, it is only fair to commend him for sticking to a promise that benefits the nation,” he stated.
The decision to limit ministerial appointments has sparked discussions about the role of lean governance in ensuring fiscal prudence and administrative efficiency. Mr. Davies’ remarks reflect growing bipartisan acknowledgement of the need to manage public resources more effectively.
President Mahama’s pledge to maintain a lean government has been a cornerstone of his administration’s policy agenda, with many viewing it as a critical step toward enhancing public trust and reducing government expenditure.
Mr. Davies concluded by emphasising the significance of following through on political promises, noting, “Sticking to this promise will not only demonstrate integrity but also set a new benchmark for future administrations.”
