MTN MoMo Marks 15 Years with National Awards

MobileMoney LTD (MML), a subsidiary of MTN Ghana, marked its 15th anniversary with a series of awards events across the country to recognise and honour its top-performing partners, agents, and merchants who have been integral to the platform’s success.

The grand finale, held at the National Awards Night in Accra, saw the Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, Shaibu Haruna, express gratitude to the Bank of Ghana and key stakeholders for their trust and collaboration over the years.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Haruna highlighted MTN MoMo’s impact on Ghana’s financial ecosystem, saying, “After 15 years, we are happy to say that we have co-created and contributed significantly to Ghana’s FinTech industry through direct and indirect employment of Ghanaians.

We continue to contribute significantly to government revenue, facilitate business growth, and create digital entrepreneurs. Above all, the platform has brought dignity to many Ghanaians through the transformative power of financial inclusion.”

Looking ahead, Mr. Haruna outlined MoMo’s vision for the next decade, which includes exploring opportunities in digital payments, cross-border transactions, insurance, investments, and e-commerce.

“Our ambition for the next decade is to provide ‘financial freedom’ for every Ghanaian, and this we hope to achieve through partnerships,” he concluded.

Winners in the agent and merchant categories were rewarded with prizes, including e-cash and motorcycles.

Celebrating 15 Years of Impact

Under the theme “Empowering Communities: Celebrating 15 Years of Progressive Financial and Digital Inclusion,” MTN MoMo’s anniversary activities included a customer promotion float, stakeholder forums, fraud awareness campaigns, digital finance training for SMEs, and a cashless market fair.

Since its launch in 2009, MTN MoMo has transformed Ghana’s financial landscape by offering millions of users secure, convenient, and affordable mobile money services. The platform continues to lead the charge in digital financial inclusion, setting the stage for even greater innovations in the coming years.
