Ghanaian Man Fatally Stabbed in Saskatoon; Suspect Charged with Murder

A Ghanaian man, identified by acquaintances as 23-year-old Alfred, tragically lost his life in Saskatoon, Canada, after a brutal stabbing on Monday night.

The incident took place at a business on the 3900 block of Millar Avenue around 7 p.m. Emergency responders arrived shortly after 8 p.m. to find Alfred with multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Saskatoon police have apprehended a 53-year-old suspect, who has been charged with first-degree murder. The suspect was taken into custody near 2nd Avenue South and Spadina Crescent East shortly after the attack.

Alfred, originally from Kumasi-Afrancho in Ghana, had moved to Canada in September 2024 to seek a better future.

According to Maame Pokuah, a Ghanaian resident in Toronto, the suspect was a co-worker and friend who often gave Alfred rides to work.

The attack, described as unprovoked, occurred during a work break. The suspect reportedly stabbed Alfred 17 times before fleeing the scene.

The Ghanaian community in Canada has been left devastated by the incident, calling for justice for Alfred.

Saskatoon Police confirmed that their Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

This heartbreaking event has sparked discussions about workplace safety and the vulnerability of immigrants striving to establish themselves in foreign countries.

As the investigation unfolds, the Ghanaian community mourns the loss of a young man whose life was tragically cut short.
