Dzifa Gomashie, Emelia Arthur, and Opare-Addo Set for Vetting Today

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will resume its vetting process today, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, with three notable nominees scheduled to appear.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister-Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, will be among the key individuals facing the committee. Known for her extensive background in promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and creative arts, Gomashie is expected to outline her vision for revitalising the tourism and creative industries.

Emelia Arthur, the Minister-Designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, will also take the spotlight. Her vetting is anticipated to centre on strategies for boosting the fisheries sector, combating illegal fishing practices, and ensuring sustainable aquaculture development.

Rounding out today’s proceedings will be George Opare-Addo, the Minister-Designate for Youth Development and Empowerment. Opare-Addo is likely to face questions on his plans to address youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, and the empowerment of young people across Ghana.

The vetting process is a critical step in Parliament’s evaluation of ministerial nominees, ensuring they are equipped to handle their respective roles effectively.

The committee’s proceedings began on January 20, 2025, with high-profile nominees, including Haruna Iddrisu for Education, Eric Opoku for Agriculture, and Kwame Governs Agbodza for Roads and Highways, and on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, with Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister-Designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs; Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister-Designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection; and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister-Designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, providing insights into their plans to address national challenges.

The committee will continue its vetting process over the next few days with the following nominees:

  • John Kwadwo Gyapong—Oti Region
  • James Gunu—Volta Region
  • Rita Akosua Awatey—Eastern Region

  • Akamugri Atanga Donatus—Upper East Region

Monday, January 27, 2025:

  • Charity Gardiner—Ahafo Region
  • Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu, Esq.—Savannah Region
  • Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo—Greater Accra Region

The vetting process is expected to provide insights into the nominees’ plans to address pressing national issues and ensure their alignment with the government’s broader development agenda.
