President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his heartfelt condolences to Rev. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, following the passing of his mother, Madam Deborah Wengam.
The president’s message of comfort came during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the General Council of Assemblies of God, Ghana; the Nyankpen and Wengam families; and Cedar Mountain Chapel, who came to formally inform him of the sad news.
The delegation, led by Rev. Dr. Godwin Tito Agyei, Assistant General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, also extended an invitation to President Mahama to attend the funeral service of Madam Wengam.
The service is set to take place on Saturday, 25th January 2025, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.
During the visit, Rev. Tito Agyei paid tribute to Madam Wengam, recalling her 71 years of devoted service to the church and her significant role in raising a visionary leader in Rev. Wengam. The assistant general superintendent noted that the funeral is expected to draw mourners from all walks of life, with a substantial international presence expected to attend.
In his words, Rev. Tito Agyei also thanked President Mahama for his compassionate and swift response upon hearing of Madam Wengam’s passing, underscoring the support extended by the president to the grieving family.
In his remarks, President Mahama consoled Rev. Stephen Wengam and the entire family, describing Madam Wengam as a remarkable woman who had served both her church and her community with distinction. The president acknowledged the deep loss the family was experiencing, praising her lasting contribution to the church and the nation through her son, Rev. Wengam.
“Madam Wengam was a great woman who gave the church and the country a
leader of great integrity and vision,” President Mahama said. “I extend my deepest sympathies to you, Rev. Wengam, and your family. May God grant you strength and comfort during this difficult time.”
The president concluded his remarks by praying for Madam Wengam’s soul to rest in peace, joining with the family and the wider Assemblies of God community in celebrating her life and legacy.
