Ahmed Ibrahim, the minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has committed to fostering collaboration with former ministers of the ministry to develop effective policies aimed at advancing local economies across Ghana’s districts.
Speaking at his vetting before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 21, the Banda MP highlighted the need for bipartisan cooperation in addressing challenges faced by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Ahmed Ibrahim emphasised the importance of utilising the institutional memory and experiences of past leaders, regardless of their political affiliations, to deliver on President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for equitable development at the local level.
“Once given the nod, together with former ministers of local governance, no matter the political party they belong to, we will team up and make sure that we formulate strategies and policies to support the vision of President Mahama,” he said.
He stressed the importance of leveraging the comparative natural advantages of Ghana’s various districts to boost their local economies. “MMDCEs, we will put together a vision to improve the economy of the various districts, recognising their unique natural resources and potential,” he added.
Ahmed Ibrahim’s pledge aligns with the broader objectives of the ministry, which include decentralisation, effective governance, and the promotion of development across all districts. His emphasis on collaboration signals an inclusive approach to policymaking that aims to transcend partisan divisions for the greater good of the country.
