The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has officially dispelled rumours of a potential fuel shortage in Ghana, reassuring the public that the country’s fuel supply remains stable.
In a statement issued to clarify recent media reports, COMAC explained that the concerns about a fuel crisis were based on a misinterpretation of comments made by its CEO, Dr. Riverson Oppong.
The Chamber noted that Dr. Oppong’s remarks about a temporary decrease in petrol stock due to operational challenges, such as the halt in refining activities at the Sentuo Oil Refinery, were not indicative of a looming fuel shortage.
“There is no cause for alarm,” the statement stressed. “We have ample fuel at the ports, with additional shipments arriving to further ensure stability in the market.”
COMAC emphasised that the current petrol reserves are sufficient to meet the nation’s demand for the next three weeks.
Additionally, vessels are actively unloading fuel at ports, with several more lined up for delivery.
The proactive importation of fuel and efforts to boost stock levels have played a key role in maintaining supply, the Chamber confirmed, assuring Ghanaians that there is no immediate threat to fuel availability.
This statement comes as part of COMAC’s ongoing efforts to maintain transparency and keep the public informed about the state of the country’s fuel market.
