13-Year-Old Girl Escapes Alleged Ritual Killing in Aburi

In a harrowing incident on Friday night, a 13-year-old girl narrowly escaped what is believed to have been a ritual killing in Aburi-Kitase, Akuapem South Municipality, Eastern Region.

The girl, who lives near the residence of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, went missing at approximately 8 p.m. while heading out to buy food.

She was abducted by four unidentified men, who reportedly tied her hands and legs, preparing to harm her by slashing her breast.

Her life was saved when a good Samaritan, upon discovering the suspicious activity, fired warning shots, forcing the suspects to abandon their plan and flee the scene. The teenager was rescued, shaken but physically unharmed.

Frank Amankwah, the assembly member for the Kitase Electoral Area, confirmed the incident and attributed the growing insecurity in the region to the lack of functional streetlights along the critical Ayi Mensah to Peduase Lodge road.

“From Ayi Mensah to Peduase Lodge, none of the streetlights work. This has made the area a hotspot for criminal activities. Individuals from nearby towns like Ashaiman, Madina, and Nungua exploit this darkness to commit such heinous acts,” he stated in an interview with Citi News.

Amankwah urged the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to address the situation urgently, emphasising the need for adequate security measures and functional lighting systems.

Residents are calling for immediate intervention to restore safety in the area. The assembly member highlighted the alarming state of security near the Peduase Presidential Lodge, a high-profile location that should be under stringent protection.

“I appeal to the IGP and all security authorities to take swift action. The current state of security is unacceptable, especially for an area like Peduase Lodge,” he said.

The police have initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects. Meanwhile, the rescued teenager is receiving counselling and support to aid her recovery.
