A mobile court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Chukwunyere Okechukwu Akomas, to 14 years in prison for defiling two minors aged 8 and 11.
The verdict, delivered on Friday, January 10, 2025, found Akomas guilty on both counts of defilement.
The court handed him 14 years of imprisonment for each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.

The case was brought to light by the Behind Bar Foundation, a human rights advocacy group in Abia State.
The foundation’s coordinator disclosed the court’s decision on Friday night, commending the judiciary for taking decisive action against crimes targeting minors.
The organisation also highlighted its ongoing commitment to ensuring justice for vulnerable members of society and called for stricter enforcement of child protection laws to deter such offences.
