The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team has gathered substantial evidence of suspected looted state assets by appointees of the previous administration.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Akosombo for Asuogyaman MP Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Ablakwa emphasised that ORAL’s work is far from temporary and will culminate in prosecutions and the retrieval of misappropriated funds and properties.
According to Ablakwa, the evidence collected will soon be presented to President John Dramani Mahama, who is expected to direct the attorney general to take appropriate action.
The cases may also involve the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
“We are keen on gathering the necessary evidence to facilitate successful prosecutions and punishments, which must serve as a deterrent to all politicians, including those serving in government,” Ablakwa said.
The MP acknowledged the contributions of former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo and other investigative work, noting that they would be pivotal in ensuring accountability.
Ablakwa assured Ghanaians that the ORAL team’s work would be a lasting feature of the Mahama administration, aimed at curbing state capture and looting.
The five-member team, including retired COP Nathan Kofi Boakye, lawyer Martin Kpebu, investigative journalist Raymond Archer, and Domelevo, was appointed during the transition period to lead this critical mission.
“We have gathered so much evidence of incidents of state capture and looting. These would be presented to the president, who would, in turn, instruct the attorney general to take the appropriate actions,” Ablakwa told the Daily Graphic.
At the same event, Asuogyaman MP Thomas Ampem Nyarko thanked party members, chiefs, and clergy for his successful reelection and urged unity for the development of the constituency.
Nyarko reaffirmed the party’s commitment to delivering on its mandate and assured constituents of infrastructural improvements, including roads linking Akosombo, Gyakiti, Anum Boso, and Mpakadan.
“It was a great strong wind that returned the NDC to power, and it is my plea that with the same trust you have in us, you support the party to deliver on its mandate to serve the people of Ghana,” Nyarko said.
