President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to establish a committee that will lead the organisation of a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, aiming to promote judicial independence and address systemic injustices in Ghana’s legal system.
Speaking at the 92nd Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Gomoa Pomadze, Winneba, on Thursday, January 9, President Mahama underscored his administration’s commitment to advancing constitutional reforms to ensure justice and fairness for all citizens.
The National Constitutional Review Validation Conference will be an inclusive forum designed to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders, ensuring that any constitutional amendments reflect the will of the people.
According to the President, the conference will be pivotal in building a broad national consensus around the proposed changes.
“I will soon establish a committee to plan a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, allowing us to build broad consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments,” President Mahama confirmed.
The President reiterated that strengthening Ghana’s justice system was a priority for his administration, stressing the need to create a judicial environment where all Ghanaians, regardless of their background, are treated equally under the law.
“As the Holy Quran reminds us, we are called to uphold justice even against ourselves,” Mahama said. “Justice must always not only be done but must be seen to be done and must be felt by all. Justice is a moral compass that must guide our every decision, every law, and every interaction in our nation.”
