Akufo-Addo to Deliver State of the Nation Address Today

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament today, January 3, 2025.

The address, mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, marks the President’s concluding report on Ghana’s progress, challenges, and outlook as his tenure comes to an end.

This year’s SONA holds particular significance as it will be the President’s last opportunity to outline the state of the nation under his leadership, having served two terms in office.

The address is expected to highlight key achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration over the past eight years, including economic reforms, social interventions, infrastructure development, and governance initiatives.

Additionally, the President is anticipated to address ongoing challenges facing the country, such as economic recovery efforts, youth unemployment, and the implementation of flagship programs like the Free SHS policy and Agenda 111.

The event comes just days before the dissolution of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, which will take place on Monday, January 6, 2025. On the same day, the 9th Parliament will convene at 11:00 PM to elect its leadership, including a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.

The Speaker-elect and newly elected Members of Parliament will then be sworn in at midnight, marking the transition to the next legislative term.

The Parliamentary Service has urged all Members of Parliament and stakeholders to attend the address, which will be held in the Chamber of Parliament. The session will also be broadcast live to ensure that Ghanaians across the country can follow the proceedings.
