NDC Opposes EC’s Decision to Rerun Polling Station Elections in Dome-Kwabenya

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong opposition to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.

The announcement by Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, followed the suspension of the parliamentary results declaration for the third time on Saturday, December 27, due to chaos and contention over the missing pink sheet from the polling station.

The NDC insists that its candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, has already won the parliamentary election held on December 7. According to the party, the results from all other polling stations confirm Akurugu’s victory.

At a media briefing after the EC’s announcement, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, rejected the proposed rerun.

“There was a difference of 1,154 votes, and so if today we are having a problem with one polling station, that polling station should be taken out. The voter population for that polling station is 689, so when you deduct 689 from 1,154, your guess is as good as mine,” Dr. Tanko-Computer asserted.

Dr. Tanko-Computer also criticised the EC for alleged mismanagement and calculation errors, accusing the Commission of failing to handle the matter competently.

“These people have issues with arithmetic, and so we will do the calculation for them. They should hold their horses because Elikplim has won the election, and we will not accept their so-called rerun,” he stated firmly.

The situation has further escalated tensions in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, with both sides digging in their heels. While the EC maintains its position that a rerun is necessary to resolve the impasse, the NDC remains adamant about rejecting the decision.
