‘If you were silent under NPP, stay silent now’ – Rev Obofour to critics

Rev. Kwaku Obofour, leader of the Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), has urged Ghanaians to avoid hypocritical and selective criticism of the incoming John Dramani Mahama administration.

Speaking during a church service, Rev. Obofour highlighted the silence of many critics during the hardships under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He cautioned those same individuals against suddenly becoming vocal under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“If you were silent when the dollar reached 17 Ghana cedis under NPP, kindly remain quiet if it reaches 35 Ghana cedis under NDC,” Rev. Obofour declared.

He stressed that criticism should be fair and consistent, not based on political affiliations.

The clergyman expressed concerns over the double standards in Ghanaian politics, emphasising that both NPP and NDC governments deserve the same level of scrutiny.

“It’s the same blood running through both parties,” he remarked, urging Ghanaians to support Mahama in addressing the nation’s challenges.

Rev. Obofour also criticised the hypocrisy of those who failed to hold the outgoing administration accountable, particularly regarding the economic struggles that worsened during its tenure.

“How much was 5 kg of rice then, and how much is it now? This selective outrage is what labels us hypocrites in the eyes of the youth,” he lamented.

He concluded by calling for unity and constructive engagement as the nation transitions to a new government, urging all citizens to prioritise fairness and accountability over partisan biases.
