CHASS urges government to release funds for smooth reopening of schools

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has called on the Ministry of Education to urgently release outstanding funds needed for the smooth operation of Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Ghana ahead of the 2025 academic year.
In a communiqué signed by CHASS National Secretary, Primus Baro, the group referred to earlier letters sent on September 20, 2024, and August 12, 2024, along with assurances given by the Education Minister during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024. Despite these promises, the funds remain unpaid.
CHASS highlighted that arrears for perishable items, unpaid utility bills, and other essential needs are severely affecting the day-to-day running of schools.
The association stressed that these funds are crucial to ensure schools can reopen smoothly on January 3, 2025. Without them, school heads will struggle to maintain infrastructure, provide quality education, and safeguard students’ welfare.
CHASS is urging both the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to prioritize the release of these funds to avoid disruptions in the upcoming academic year.
