EC suspends re-collation in Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North over missing pink sheets

The Electoral Commission (EC) has temporarily halted the recollation of parliamentary results for the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North constituencies due to the unavailability of crucial election documents and unresolved disputes.

This development follows a High Court ruling that ordered the EC to recollate results in nine constituencies over allegations of irregularities.

While the Commission has successfully concluded re-collation in seven constituencies, Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North remain unresolved.

The EC has declared results in the following constituencies, all won by the New Patriotic Party (NPP):

  • Ahafo Ano North
  • Techiman South
  • Ahafo Ano South West
  • Nsawam Adoagyiri
  • Obuasi East
  • Okaikwei Central
  • Tema Central

Challenges in Ablekuma North

In Ablekuma North, the recollation process was suspended due to the returning officer’s inability to produce 62 of the required pink sheets. Without these documents, the collation process could not proceed.

Disputes in Dome Kwabenya

In Dome Kwabenya, three polling stations lacked hard copies of their pink sheets. The available soft copies could not be converted into usable formats for the re-collation exercise.

The NPP attributes the missing documents to violent disruptions during the initial collation process, during which agents were reportedly assaulted and key election materials were destroyed.

The re-collation exercises have been conducted under tight security, with joint military and police teams ensuring transparency and order at collation centres.

Despite the suspension, the EC has pledged to resolve the issues in Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North.

Benjamin Bano Bio, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, reiterated the Commission’s dedication to electoral transparency and integrity.

“We are conducting investigations into the missing documents and are working closely with stakeholders to address the disputes. The EC remains committed to ensuring fairness and accuracy in the electoral process,” he stated during a press briefing.

The suspension has heightened tensions in the two constituencies, with both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) awaiting further clarification.

The EC’s resolution of these disputes will be crucial in finalising parliamentary results and maintaining public trust in the electoral process.
