The Ghana Police Service has apprehended eight suspects in connection with an attack on the Metro Mass Transit workshop in Sunyani, Bono Region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, the police reported that the arrests occurred on Monday, December 9, following the suspects’ unlawful entry into the workshop premises.
The suspects, identified as Issakah Taufiq, Abudu Isaiah, Abdul Latif Mohammed, Mohammed Azandoro, Alhassan Issah, Amadu Mohammed, Abdulai Adams, and Abdulai Ibrahim, allegedly threatened and attacked workers at the facility, forcing them to flee their offices.
The police rapid response team acted swiftly after receiving a distress call from the workshop, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects.
This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects apprehended for attacks, looting, and destruction of property nationwide to 97. The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across the country.
The eight suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigative procedures.
The police encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities and pledged to handle such reports with urgency. They also called on the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement efforts to ensure security within communities.
The incident underscores ongoing challenges with unrest and vandalism, and the swift response by security personnel highlights their resolve to curb such activities.
