A devastating collision on the Gomoa Okyereko stretch of the Kasoa-Winneba highway has claimed three lives and left 20 others critically injured.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
The accident, which occurred in the early hours, involved a Sprinter Benz bus (registration number GW 5477-24) travelling from Winneba to Kasoa and a Hyundai Grace (registration number GR 5899-22) heading in the opposite direction.
According to DO 2 Frederick Adu-Poku, the Municipal Fire Officer for Winneba, the crash resulted from wrongful overtaking by the Sprinter bus, leading to a head-on collision.
He described the incident as preventable and urged drivers to adhere to road safety regulations, particularly as the festive season approaches.
“This accident could have been avoided if the driver had exercised patience and allowed the vehicle ahead of him to proceed. There are road laws in Ghana, and we want all drivers to comply,” DO 2 Adu-Poku stated.
He also called on commercial drivers to avoid speeding and prioritise caution to prevent further tragedies during the holidays.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the incident while offering support to the affected families.
