Your Funds Are Safe and Secure – MTN to MoMo Customers

MTN Ghana has moved to reassure its Mobile Money (MoMo) customers that their funds remain safe and secure, despite a recent cybersecurity incident reported by the wider MTN Group.

In an official notice, MTN Ghana confirmed that no mobile money wallets have been compromised, urging customers to disregard rumours suggesting otherwise.

“Our systems remain secure. There has been no breach of MoMo wallets. We are closely monitoring the situation and working with cybersecurity experts,” the company stated.

This follows a disclosure by MTN Group that it had suffered a cybersecurity incident currently under investigation. Preliminary assessments indicate that data belonging to approximately 5,700 MTN Ghana customers may have been affected, though the full scope of the breach has yet to be confirmed.

In response, the telecoms giant has engaged top-tier cybersecurity professionals and launched a forensic investigation in line with established security protocols to ensure data integrity and mitigate any potential risks.

MTN Ghana has also issued a renewed call for customer vigilance, advising users not to share their PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or engage with suspicious links and unsolicited calls.

“We urge all customers to remain alert and protect their personal information,” the statement added.

The development comes as digital financial services continue to expand across Ghana, with MTN MoMo playing a pivotal role in everyday transactions. The telco reiterated its commitment to safeguarding customer data and upholding public trust.
