Woman Killed by Truck at Bortianor Bus Stop

A fatal accident at the Bortianor Bus Stop on the Mallam-Kasoa highway resulted in the death of a woman who was attempting to cross the busy road on Friday, June 20.

The incident occurred when a long vehicle, carrying the registration number WR 1475-13, ran over the pedestrian.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the truck tried to avoid colliding with other vehicles that had halted to allow pedestrians to cross. In executing this evasive manoeuvre, the truck deviated from the main road and, in the process, struck the woman who was standing on the median.

“The woman didn’t see because there is no streetlight on this road, from Mallam Junction to Kasoa. The streetlights are there just like a white elephant – they’re not working anymore,” an eyewitness named Lawrence told Citi News.

This statement highlights longstanding concerns over the non-functional street lighting on this stretch of the highway, which many locals believe has contributed to unsafe conditions for pedestrians.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, with particular attention being paid to the maintenance of road safety infrastructure. The tragic death has sparked renewed calls for urgent repairs and upgrades to the street lighting along the Mallam-Kasoa highway to prevent future incidents.

Local community members have expressed deep distress over the accident and are demanding swift action from relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, police continue to gather information, and further details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
