Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has declared that the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is effectively guaranteed, following their emphatic 5–0 victory over the Central African Republic in Morocco.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, the minister expressed full confidence in the team’s chances, dismissing any realistic possibility of Ghana missing out on qualification.
“The goal difference is huge, and it is not possible for Madagascar to go to Mali and beat them by 8-0, and then we will lose by 8-0 to Comoros,” he stated.
“It’s just not possible. So technically speaking, we are there, and we considered this game as a qualification game.”
The Black Stars are now within a point of sealing qualification, having extended their lead at the top of Group I to three points. Four second-half goals against the Central African Republic sealed a dominant performance, leaving Ghana in a commanding position ahead of their final group game.
Kofi Adams said Sunday’s final qualifier should be seen as a celebration rather than a decider, reflecting the optimism within government and the football fraternity.
“Sunday is just for us to get to the stadium to celebrate the players,” he said.
“They will play for us, but we, the supporters, must come to the stadium to celebrate them. On Sunday, the 12th of October, all of us must come to this.”
Ghana’s strong showing has put the team on the brink of returning to the global stage, with the 2026 World Cup set to be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The Sports Minister’s remarks mirror the widespread national excitement, as fans anticipate another historic appearance on football’s biggest stage.
