Victims of the Adum PZ market fire in Kumasi have rejected food donations from Interior Minister and Asawase MP Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, insisting that what they need is practical assistance to rebuild their businesses.
The devastating fire, which broke out on March 21, destroyed several shops, leaving traders in distress and seeking urgent solutions.
Muntaka visited the affected traders with a truckload of relief supplies, including 1,500 bags of rice and 8,000 boxes of cooking oil, hoping to ease their burden.
However, the victims turned down the donations, stating that food aid was not a priority in the wake of their financial and material losses.
In a video circulating online, traders could be seen jeering at the minister and his entourage, demanding that efforts be directed toward rebuilding the market and restoring their businesses.
Some victims also raised concerns about a potential eviction from the land, calling on authorities to prioritise their livelihoods over temporary relief.
Muntaka, while defending his intervention, acknowledged the economic impact of frequent market fires and pledged to support traders in getting back on their feet.
