Viral Video TikToker Jailed Seven Months for Threats Against President Mahama and Gov’t Officials

Viral video TikToker jailed seven months for threats against President and MPs

David Kwodow Prah Afful, popularly known on social media as Kwame Nkrumah II, has been sentenced to seven months in prison after threatening to kill the President, Members of Parliament, and other government officials in a viral TikTok video.

Afful appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of threat of death and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace. In court, he admitted wrongdoing and appealed to government officials for forgiveness.

The Ghana Police Service arrested him on Saturday, September 13, at his hideout near Kasoa Market around 2:20 p.m., following public outrage over his livestream.

In the video, Afful allegedly declared that he would kill government officials, journalists, and civil servants if armed with a gun or cutlass. He also threatened to burn down markets and incited others to engage in similar acts of violence.

Police authorities, while confirming the arrest, reiterated that although freedom of speech is protected, statements that incite violence, insecurity, or public disorder will not be tolerated.
