Vinícius Jr should have won Ballon d’Or, it was clear- Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has labelled Vinícius Jr.’s omission from winning the Ballon d’Or as “unfair,” commending the Globe Soccer Awards for their integrity in recognising footballing excellence.

Speaking at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards, where Vinícius was named Best Men’s Player, Ronaldo said, “Vinícius Jr. should have won the Ballon d’Or. In my opinion, it was clear. It was unfair. This is why I love the Globe Soccer Awards; they are honest.”

The Brazilian star also won the Best Forward accolade at the ceremony, which celebrated the brightest stars in football. Vinícius’ exceptional season with Real Madrid, leading them to a La Liga and Champions League double, had made him a favourite for the Ballon d’Or.

The awards night, held in Dubai, honoured several footballing icons:

The Ballon d’Or was awarded to Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, who played a key role in City’s treble-winning season and Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph. Despite his success, the decision surprised many, given Vinícius Jr.’s remarkable campaign.

Real Madrid boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony, accusing its organisers of disrespecting Vinícius. The club cited his pivotal contributions to their success and the global admiration he garnered throughout the season.

While Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win reflects his undeniable achievements, Ronaldo’s remarks and the Globe Soccer Awards’ recognition of Vinícius reignited debates about fairness and transparency in football’s top accolades.
