VIDEO: ‘We May Be Micro in Numbers, But Mighty in Knowledge’- Kwadaso MP

Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency and former deputy minister of Education, Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko

The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency and former deputy minister of education, Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, has emphasised that although the minority in Parliament may be small in numbers, they possess immense knowledge and expertise.

His remarks follow a controversial statement by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who referred to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus as a “micro minority.”

The Speaker’s comment sparked immediate protest from the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who argued that the term was inappropriate and undermined the dignity of the NPP caucus.

“The Minority Caucus hereby protests the description given to us by the Speaker,” Afenyo-Markin declared, as his colleagues rose in disagreement and chanted against the Speaker’s choice of words.

In response, Speaker Bagbin acknowledged their concerns but reminded the House that Afenyo-Markin himself had previously used the term in a similar context.

Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, who was not in the chamber when the incident occurred, later weighed in on the controversy.

Speaking in an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on Hot Morning Drive, he downplayed the issue, stating that speakers of Parliament sometimes make such remarks to lighten the mood in the chamber.

However, he used the opportunity to assert the competence of the NPP minority in Parliament.

“The Speaker will now know that though we are micro in numbers, we are mighty in knowledge,” he remarked.

He further reassured Ghanaians that despite their minority status, the NPP caucus remains committed to holding the government accountable and ensuring that parliamentary oversight is not compromised.
