A fire outbreak at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale has destroyed transformers, insulators, and other vital electrical equipment.
The Ghana National Fire Service swiftly responded to the emergency, deploying multiple fire tenders from both the metro and hospital fire stations to contain the flames.
Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Baba Hudu, stated that although the response was prompt, the scale of the fire demanded additional resources.
“We initially deployed two fire tenders, but due to the intensity of the fire, they weren’t enough. We had to coordinate with the water company for additional supply,” he said.
Meanwhile, NEDCo’s Corporate Communications Director, Maxwell Kotoka, has assured the public that power distribution in the region remains unaffected despite the extensive damage.
“The fire mainly impacted our warehouse, which stores essential materials and equipment, but we have taken measures to ensure that electricity supply remains stable,” he noted.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage while efforts are underway to restore normal operations at the facility.
