Supreme Court nominee Justice Senyo Dzamefe has made a compelling appeal for a complete technological transformation of Ghana’s judicial system, urging the adoption of artificial intelligence, real-time transcription tools, and virtual courtrooms to replace the country’s outdated manual practices.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, Justice Dzamefe did not mince words in his critique of the status quo, stating that the continued reliance on handwritten records and analogue systems is impeding the delivery of swift and efficient justice.
“We must go with technology. “The time of long handwriting is long gone past,” he declared, drawing attention to the urgent need for digital reforms.
Justice Dzamefe highlighted the advantages of AI-powered transcription and voice recording systems, which he believes would enable real-time documentation of court proceedings, thereby enhancing accuracy, transparency, and speed in adjudication.
“By the end of the day, once the court is done sitting, the records are ready. We also need to go virtual so people can testify online. We must be abreast of time; otherwise, we will be left out,” he stressed.
