The Minister of Communications, Sam George, has granted a one-week extension to the stakeholder committee tasked with reviewing DStv subscription pricing in Ghana.
The committee, inaugurated on September 8, 2025, was initially expected to complete its work this week but will now submit its final report by September 29, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 23, the National Communications Authority (NCA) explained that the extension would allow the committee to conclude consultations and ensure that its recommendations adequately address the minister’s concerns over DStv’s pricing structure.
The committee is working to:
- Develop a shared understanding of DSTv pricing for Ghana.
- Formulate commercially viable measures acceptable to all stakeholders.
- Establish a roadmap to combat cross-border piracy of DSTv decoders and services from Nigeria into Ghana.
The NCA said the committee has made “significant progress” since its formation but required additional time to harmonise stakeholder positions before finalising its recommendations.
The review comes against the backdrop of widespread public concern over the high cost of DStv subscriptions in Ghana. Critics argue that pricing has become increasingly burdensome for households, especially given the regional disparities with neighbouring Nigeria.
Minister Sam George has previously warned that DSTv risks suspension of its licence if it fails to implement fairer pricing models.
