The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has announced the government’s readiness to facilitate technology-driven solutions in Ghana’s transport sector through strategic partnerships, while clarifying that operational oversight will remain the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Transport.
“We will ensure that any relevant technological conversation is well aligned, but the Transport Ministry will lead on operational matters,” the minister said during a meeting with representatives from Yango, the Ministry of Transport, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) on Friday, August 15, 2025.
For his part, the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, welcomed the proposals presented by Yango, urging the company to formally submit them for review.
He highlighted that Ghana already has an electric vehicle policy with a roadmap for implementation and stressed the government’s commitment to partnerships that improve transport infrastructure and service delivery.
Both ministers agreed that the session was an introductory platform and that subsequent engagements would focus on a detailed review of Yango’s proposals, with the aim of integrating practical solutions into Ghana’s transport system.
The meeting also had in attendance Deputy Minister for Transport Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport Mrs Mabel Asi Sagoe, and Mr Abraham Zata, Acting Director of Research, Business and Innovation at DVLA.
Yango was represented by a high-level delegation including Shashi Singh, Chief Operating Officer for MENA; Zanyiwe Asare, Vice President for Public Policy in Africa; Tom Ofonime, Country Head for Ghana; and Mohammed Suhuyini Zakaria, Public Policy Consultant for Ghana.
