Robber Sentenced to 15 Years for Motorbike Theft in WA

The Wa Circuit Court has sentenced a 20-year-old man, Nawaf Abdulai, to 15 years imprisonment for his involvement in a violent motorbike robbery in the Upper West Region.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, Abdulai and another suspect, Awal Abass—who is currently on the run—robbed two victims of their Haojue and Luojia motorbikes on March 6, 2025. The stolen bikes bore registration numbers M-21-449 UW and M-17-4607 UW, respectively.

Police say they acted swiftly, arresting Abdulai at his residence on March 8, just two days after the incident. During interrogation, Abdulai admitted to the crime. He was subsequently charged and arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court.

On April 7, 2025, the court, presided over by His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo, found him guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

The Police Service stated that Abdulai’s conviction brings a measure of closure to the victims and sends a strong message to others who may be contemplating similar crimes.

“The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the efforts of its officers and the general public for their diligence and professionalism in handling this matter,” the statement read. “The Command will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our communities.”

The police also noted that Abdulai’s photograph has been publicly released because he has been duly convicted by a court of law.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest the second suspect, Awal Abass, who remains at large. The police are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
