Rising Prostitution in Ghana Is a Failure of Ghana’s Security- NUTAG President (VIDEO)

President of the Nigeria Union of Traders Association in Ghana (NUTAG), Comrade Evaristus Chukwuduruo Nwankwo

The president of the Nigeria Union of Traders Association in Ghana (NUTAG), Comrade Evaristus Chukwuduruo Nwankwo, has blamed the growing involvement of Nigerian nationals in prostitution within Ghana on what he describes as a “complete failure of the country’s security apparatus.”

In a frank interview on Hot FM’s Morning Drive with Hot Nana Kay, Comrade Evaristus expressed deep concern over what he sees as unchecked immoral activity, claiming that Ghanaian authorities are turning a blind eye to a trend that is both illegal and socially damaging.

“The rise of Nigerian prostitution in Ghana is not just a moral issue—it is a direct result of security failure,” he stated. “If Ghana’s laws do not support prostitution, then it is the duty of the country’s security to act at the borders and within the country to stop this.”

He was unsparing in his criticism, saying that security personnel are well aware of the hotels and hotspots where such activities take place but fail to act decisively.

“They know where these girls operate from. They know the locations. Yet, they ignore it, and it continues to grow,” Comrade Evaristus said.

Citing a troubling encounter by a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, he revealed how the diplomat was once embarrassed by a group of Nigerian women soliciting on the streets. The High Commissioner had them repatriated—only for the same women to return to Ghana the very next day, highlighting glaring loopholes in immigration enforcement.

As a Christian, Comrade Evaristus said he is troubled by the societal damage this situation causes, especially to vulnerable young people. “When these acts are done openly, even people who have no interest in such lifestyles are tempted to fall into it. It puts pressure on unemployed youth and distorts social values.”

He issued a strong call to action to Ghana’s security forces, urging them to create an environment that is hostile to prostitution, particularly in areas where the trade is visibly increasing.

“If you don’t make the environment comfortable for such acts, they will not thrive,” he said. “Ghana’s security must wake up and act. This trend is spiralling out of control.”
