Ridge Hospital Staff Jubilant Over New Digital Health Software – Beyuo

Health professionals at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) are expressing strong approval of the newly introduced Ghana Healthcare Information Management System (GHIMS), describing it as a more efficient, flexible, and user-friendly digital platform for hospital operations.

The commendation was revealed by Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Professor Titus Beyuo, who also serves on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and the Subsidiary Legislation Committee.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, October 30, Prof. Beyuo said healthcare workers at Ridge Hospital were “jubilating” over the rollout of the system, which has already begun transforming digital record management and patient data processing.

“What I can confirm to you is that our colleagues at Ridge Hospital are jubilating as of today because the new software introduced is more user-friendly to them. It is very accessible,” he stated.

“People can make any changes and customise it to the institutional demands. I have personally called the Minister of Health to suggest that Korle Bu should be the next place for piloting,” he added.

The GHIMS platform was procured by the government to replace the troubled Lightwave Health Information Management System, whose repeated technical failures had caused widespread disruptions across hospitals, especially in the Ashanti Region.

According to Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the migration to GHIMS will be carried out in phases over four weeks. The process begins with teaching and regional hospitals and will gradually extend to district hospitals, clinics, health centres, and CHPS compounds nationwide.

The introduction of GHIMS aims to restore reliable electronic record-keeping, reduce patient waiting times, and eliminate the need for manual data entry—a major setback experienced under the previous Lightwave system.

Hospital administrators have reportedly noted that GHIMS enables real-time data access, faster patient registration, and integration across departments, improving coordination among doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.

Prof. Beyuo expressed optimism that, with full implementation, GHIMS would boost efficiency, enhance transparency, and improve overall patient experience across Ghana’s healthcare facilities.

“The system gives users more control and allows them to adapt it to their workflow, which is crucial for large and busy hospitals,” he emphasised.

The Ministry of Health is expected to monitor progress closely and make necessary adjustments during the nationwide rollout to ensure smooth adoption and sustainability.
