The official X (formerly Twitter) account of President John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama) has been hacked, with cybercriminals using it to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme.
Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the breach in an interview with GHOne TV, stating that unidentified individuals had gained access to the account.
“Yes, the account has been hacked. Some unscrupulous persons have taken control, but we are actively working to restore it,” he assured.
The breach was first noticed on Sunday, when Mahama’s account began advertising “Solanafrica,” a fake crypto project falsely linked to the former president. The scheme, which claimed to offer free blockchain payments across Africa, was later exposed as a scam, leaving investors with financial losses.

Although some of the fraudulent posts have been deleted, the compromised account continues to share crypto-related content, sparking concerns about another potential scam.
Authorities have urged the public to ignore all posts from Mahama’s handle until it is fully recovered. An investigation is underway to track down those behind the hack.
