President John Dramani Mahama has visited the family of the late Alhaji Asoma Banda, a trailblazer in Ghana’s shipping and aviation industries, to express his condolences following the business mogul’s passing in the early hours of Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Leading a delegation of government officials, President Mahama paid tribute to Alhaji Banda, whose contributions transformed Ghana’s business landscape.
News of his death was first shared on social media by Nigerian businessman Dele Momodu, who described him as an “elephant that has fallen.”
Prominent Ghanaian businessman Sir Sam Jonah also honoured Alhaji Banda, calling him a “visionary entrepreneur and national asset” whose ventures, including Antrak Airlines, reshaped the country’s aviation and shipping sectors.
Beyond his business achievements, Alhaji Banda was remembered as a mentor and historian who inspired generations with his remarkable journey from humble beginnings to great success.
Jonah urged Ghanaians to celebrate his enduring legacy, emphasising that his resilience and vision would continue to inspire future entrepreneurs.
